This photograph, ‘Raglan raft race’ by Paul Cooper, won a prize in a 2011 ethnic diversity competition run by the New Zealand Republic of Korea (South Korea) Friendship Society. Pride in New Zealand’s ethnic diversity has largely replaced an earlier value, a pride in the country’s British heritage. The New Zealand government has an Office of Ethnic Affairs – and a minister for ethnic affairs – to support and represent the country’s many ethnic groups.
