One of the roles of modern botanic gardens is to educate visitors about plants in environments that they may not be able to visit, such as mountaintops. This alpine scree garden is in the Dunedin Botanic Garden. Part of the New Zealand native plant collection, it mimics the drainage conditions of a mountainside covered with loose rocks.
