Story: Digital media and the internet

Cartoon about copyright law, 2008

Dylan Horrocks's cartoon expresses the response of many in the digital community to what they perceived to be the threat posed by the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Bill 2008. Section 92A of the initial bill provided for the disconnection of internet users who were alleged to have downloaded copyright material. Many critics, such as Horrocks, saw this as a huge overreaction which was driven by the financial power of the entertainment industry.
