‘Yellowacke’

In Wellington city, weathering has changed much of its greywacke rock into a yellow, clay-rich material. Solid and infertile, it makes hard work for gardeners. This excavation, showing what the rock looks like near the ground surface, is in the suburb of Roseneath.
