The World Masters’ Games is the largest international multi-sport event. In April 2017, 25,000 competitors from 100 countries participated in 28 different sports in Auckland and Waikato. Ten thousand of them were New Zealanders, and thousands of spectators attended the 48 venues. The definition of ‘masters’ differs between sports, but in most cases competitors are aged at least 35. The oldest athletes are centenarians, including 101-year-old Man Kaur from India, who won three gold medals in Auckland.
