Story: Health and society

Cold houses

Cold, damp houses and polluting heating can worsen health problems like asthma. Health researcher Dr Philippa Howden-Chapman visits the Jessup family home in Naenae, Lower Hutt, in May 2009 and finds the children's bedroom cold enough to cause serious health problems. Luckily, the Jessups were about to have their home insulated, which would raise indoor temperatures to safer levels.
