These students at Massey College in 1954 are being trained in wool handling and classing. Wool is classed for the qualities that make it suitable for manufacturing, including staple length, colour, fineness and whether it breaks easily. Wool classers need to be able to assess each fleece correctly so that the farmer receives the best returns when the wool is sold.
