A Tanzanian student (2nd of 2)

A Tanzanian Colombo Plan student

Mwatumn Mtengeti, a Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme student from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, is shown a patu (Māori club) by Mrs J. Carlyon (left) at the National Publicity Studios, Wellington, in 1968. Students were among the few black Africans in New Zealand before the 1980s. They came on scholarships, and most returned home after completing their studies.
