Immunisation against COVID-19 first became available in New Zealand – on a limited basis – in early 2021. As part of its programme to encourage people to get immunised, the Ministry of Health organised a national day of action, ‘Super Saturday’, in October 2021. New Zealanders were asked to get vaccinated or support someone else to do so. By the end of the day, more than 130,000 people had been vaccinated.

Hundreds of vaccination sites were set up around the country, including this one in Cannons Creek, Porirua. Called ‘Do it 4 the East’, the event was led by Pasifika youth and featured live music, raffles and food stalls.
