In March 2023 a visit by a British ‘women’s rights’ activist initiated a number of marches and gatherings in support of trans people. At the planned Auckland event, counter-protesters numbered around 2000 and her speech did not go ahead. Although her Wellington speech next day was cancelled, around 1000 people gathered in Civic Square to express their support for trans people.
