Coal protest, 2017

Former Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons is in the foreground in this group of activists from Coal Action Network Aotearoa who chained themselves to a gate outside the Fonterra dairy factory at Clandeboye, north of Timaru, in January 2017. They were attempting to prevent deliveries of coal. Fonterra had promised to eventually stop using coal at its South Island plants, but given no timeframe for this change.
