Tairongo Amoamo (Te Whakatōhea), a member of the Māori advisory committee for the Bateman New Zealand historical atlas – ko papatuanuku e takoto nei, displays one of the Māori plates from the atlas at its launch in 1997. Beside him stands Jock Phillips, then the chief historian at the Department of Internal Affairs, who supervised the publishing project.
