The British Drama League was established in New Zealand in 1931 and encouraged the performance of one-act plays by its members. Here Wendy Evans and Les Jones of the Heretaunga Players assume the roles of Doto and Tegeus-Chromis in a 1968 performance of A phoenix too frequent, by Christopher Fry. The Heretaunga Players were a community theatre group from Upper Hutt. Established in 1939, they were still active in 2014. In 1969, shortly after this event, the British Drama League was absorbed into Theatre New Zealand.
