In 1983 influential Irish-born post-object artist Ian Hunter was commissioned to set up the 'Hot spots' installation in the director's office of the National Art Gallery in Wellington. Hunter combined drawing with a variety of found and purchased objects, creating symbols to interpret the then tense interaction between Māori and Pākehā.
