Story: Chaffey, Annie Selina and Chaffey, Henry Fox

Henry Fox Chaffey and Annie Selina Chaffey

Henry Fox Chaffey and Annie Selina Chaffey

Time stood still for Henry and Annie Chaffey, who from 1913 lived a reclusive life in the mountains of remote north-west Nelson. This photograph from around 1945 shows them standing outside their home, Asbestos Cottage, still wearing the style of clothes fashionable when they turned their backs on society many years before.
