Early institutions: Jubilee Institute for the Blind

The first intake of children and adults at Auckland's Jubilee Institute for the Blind pose outside the main building in 1893. The home provided residential care, and education and skills training, to enable blind people to increase their independence. The school's principal, John Tighe, is sitting in the centre.
