Māori men's hostel in Parnell

In the foreground of this 1864 image is a Māori men's hostel at Parnell and Mechanics Bay. In the 19th century and through to the mid-20th century it was rare for Māori to live in the city. There were historically hostels at which Māori could stay in the city.
