This car was bogged down on the road over the Kaimai Range on New Year’s Day 1921. Driver Hector Allely was taking an English tourist from Tauranga to Hamilton to catch the train. They left Tauranga at 7 a.m., arrived at Te Poi at 5 p.m., and got into Hamilton at 10 p.m. The passenger missed the train. The distance of 105 kilometres takes less than two hours on modern roads.
