Post and Telegraph Guard, 1914

The Post and Telegraph Guard at Cable Bay in Nelson was part of the P & T Corps; 2,255 P & T staff joined the armed forces in combatant or communication roles. There were 62 telegraphers on duty in Mesopotamia (Iraq) as part of the newly-formed First Australian and New Zealand Wireless Signal Squadron. Later men joined the New Zealand Divisional Signals staff in France.
