Federated Farmers secretary Alastair Lloyd tests one of two new trailer fire units purchased for the Eiffelton–Longbeach area in Canterbury, in 1983. Each unit held 100 gallons (455 litres) of water, and could be transported quickly to rural fires, common on the dry Canterbury Plains in summer.
