Shipping sheep, Waipiro Bay

In isolated coastal areas stock were mostly transported by ship until roads improved, from the mid-20th century. These sheep are being loaded onto small boats to take them out to a waiting steamer, at Waipiro Bay on the North Island’s East Coast.
