Tuatara enclosure, Little Barrier Island

Enclosures for rearing tuatara are among the few built structures on Little Barrier Island (Hauturu), a nature reserve. Nature reserves protect threatened plants and animals. Many are islands, which can be kept free of introduced pests more easily than mainland areas.
