Tāwhirimātea, the god of weather, grasps lightning in one hand and is encased in a whirlwind. Tāwhirimātea waged war on his brothers after they conspired to separate their parents, Ranginui (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earth mother). While his brothers remained with their mother, Tāwhirimātea chose to live with his father.
