Great spotted kiwi

The great spotted kiwi, with its grey, mottled feathers, is the largest kiwi. It is found in the alpine regions of north-west Nelson, the north of the West Coast, and around Lake Sumner and Arthur’s Pass. This bird is at Pūkaha Mt Bruce (Mt Bruce National Wildlife Centre) in the Wairarapa, where there is a breeding programme.
