Story: Cultural dance

Pacific dance workshop, 2013

Tupe Lualua, artist in residence at Pacific Dance New Zealand in 2013, is shown leading a class in Porirua. Lualua, who also taught dance at Whitireia Polytechnic, worked with two local schools during her residency. Although she had expected to use a wide range of dance forms, including hip hop, the greatest demand was for Samoan traditional dance. An outcome of the residency was the setting up of the Porirua Pataka Youth Performing Arts Group.
