Suicide attempts, especially among young people, are often triggered by a life crisis such as the death of a family member or a breakdown in a romantic relationship. LifeLine was set up in 1965 to provide a free, confidential, non-judgemental counselling service for people experiencing personal difficulties. LifeLine is available on the telephone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it also provides an email service. The telephone number in 2010 was 0800 543 354.
