Corned beef label

Corned beef label

Tinned meat such as this corned beef produced by the Christchurch Meat Company only made up a minor component of New Zealanders’ meat intake. This label dates from the early 1900s. Meat canning was in operation prior to 1900 – much of it destined for export.
