Te Waata Taranui was my mums koro.
Her name was Te Awhiti Tekohi she was the only child of Matini Te Kohi. I was told it was thru her why the rohe was split. She apparently was promised to wed someone in the Rohe but she fled.
A sad but interesting story.
I would like to know more. Ngamihi.

I am the daughter of Te Awhiti Tekohi. Mokopuna of Matini Tekohi. Tewaata my great grandfather.I live in Melbourne and have been watching Te Arawa documentaries. I would like to know how I purchase the Ngati Pikiao Pepiha pukapuka. I attended Western Heights High and was told a little of my mums side. For the sake of my mokopuna I would love to learn alot more. Cousin Piki has been kind enough to share with my whanau
awsome stories of our Tupuna and our whanaunga.
We had a Waananga at Rangitihi a few years back and it was so embracing. We learned a little of our Tupuna but I want to learn more. Ngamihi

Wow, how amazing to return back to these comments and see the connections of whakapapa to Te Pokiha. I’d love to know if anyone could shed light on who my kuia Te Atawhai Taranui’s (aka Tanuku) mother was. It’s unclear to me if this was Ngarangikaki or someone else would love to know to teach my own tamariki.
