Story: Freight and warehousing

Early land freight (1st of 2)

Early land freight

Freight is prominent in this 1840s engraving of Wellington’s Tinakori Road. On the left a Māori family carry firewood, while a loaded dray is pulled by four bullocks. The central figure is probably the ‘bullockie’, or driver of the dray.
