Wellington street scene, 1847

Wellington street scene, 1847

This engraving of Wellington was published shortly before the earthquake of 1848. The view is of Manners Street, looking towards the hill path that later became Boulcott Street. The new brick chapel on the left, with the Reverend Samuel Ironside’s house beside it, was destroyed in the quake.
