Story: Marriage and partnering

Marriage certificate, 1864

The marriage of William Shanks and Euphemia Wilson was recorded on the certificate shown here. It was their proof – should they ever need it – that they were in fact a married couple. William was 24 and Euphemia was 20 years old at the time of their marriage, and both of them were listed as 'Settler' under the 'Rank or Profession' section of the certificate.
