In this studio portrait, taken in Germany in February 1887, Julius von Haast wears his German consul’s uniform and medals and decorations he has been awarded by the British, French, Italian, German and Austrian authorities since 1865. The two large decorations separate from the medal bar are the Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (United Kingdom, 1886).
