Ernie Hunter and prize-winning sauvignon blanc

Ernie Hunter and prize-winning sauvignon blanc

New Zealand sauvignon blancs first came to the attention of international wine drinkers when Marlborough winery Hunter’s won a string of awards at the Sunday Times wine festival in London. Hunter’s sauvignon blancs were placed as top wine in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1992 and 2001. Winemaker Ernie Hunter, pictured, died in a car crash in 1987.
