Story: Insect pests of crops, pasture and forestry

Ryegrass endophyte

Ryegrass endophyte

An endophyte is a fungus that lives within a plant. Some have properties that discourage insect pests. Endophytes have been bred into ryegrass to protect it against Argentine stem weevils. The paddock on the right has the endophyte, while the paddock on the left does not.
