This stag beetle (Geodorcus sp. ‘Moehau’) is only known from Mt Moehau on the Coromandel Peninsula, where it lives in moist patches under rocks and rotting logs. It is relatively large (2.3–2.7 centimetres long), and being flightless, is vulnerable to rats.
