The central strip of reserve that divides Pahīatua’s main street was originally set aside for a railway line. But the railway bypassed the town and was routed through nearby Mangamutu in the 1890s. The strip is now lined with mature trees and has a children’s playground. The yellow aeroplane is a Second World War Harvard, converted into a slide.
