Manaia

Ngātiwai descend from Manaia, captain of the Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi canoe. This carving of him is in the Whangārei office of the government department, Work and Income New Zealand. Today, many Ngātiwai live near Whangārei, both north and south of the city.
