Of the Middle Eastern peoples in New Zealand, the Lebanese have the longest history. The original immigrants came in the 1880s and 1890s, mainly from the mountain village of Bsharri (Bcharré) and the city of Tarābulus (Tripoli). People from Iran and Iraq have mainly been refugees who have arrived over the 1990s and 2000s.
