In 1964 British singing group the Beatles toured New Zealand and described the fans as surprisingly quiet. This short silent film showing their arrival and public reception provides an interesting reflection on their views. Certainly the band may have found it somewhat quaint to be greeted with huge tiki and a hongi (traditional greeting involving pressing noses). However, the crowds at Wellington airport and in the streets suggest that the fans were actually fairly high-spirited.
