Niueans were introduced to Christianity by the London Missionary Society in the 19th century. Many New Zealand Niueans continue to worship in the 2010s, though younger members of the community are less likely to spend their Sundays in the pews. These photographs were taken at St James’s Presbyterian Church in Newtown, Wellington, in 1977.
