Somewhat larger than the pink-footed shags of the other subantarctic islands, the Bounty Island shags are few in number due to the limited extent of their breeding habitat. The Bounty Islands are a tiny group of rocky islets 630 kilometres from the nearest point on the mainland. Most of the nests are on narrow cliff ledges, and consist of a flattened bowl of seaweed, feathers, stones and mud.
