Mangroves, Ōhiwa Harbour

Ōhiwa Harbour in the Bay of Plenty is near the southern limit of mangrove distribution. In the north of New Zealand, mangrove trees grow to 9 metres, but are smaller further south. Here they form a stunted shrubland, no higher than 2 metres.
