Guy Ngan was invited along with 15 others to submit a wall hanging design for Parliament's Beehive building, which was built in stages between 1969 and 1979. His design concept was chosen and it was woven by respected Wellington fibre artist Joan Calvert with the assistance of Dorothea Turner and Jean Ngan. The hanging was huge, consisting of six panels, each 2.4 metres square, and it was the largest project Calvert had ever undertaken. The piece took 18 months to make –- the process included the design and scale drawing, yarn dyeing, knotting and hanging, which took place in 1977. In the 2000s the monumental hanging remained in place on a marble wall on the first floor.
