My wife and I came to NZ in 1955 and my wife (at that time a very inexperienced cook) "followed" the Dine with Elizabeth column with great interest and profit.
Elizabeth Messenger promoted a simple shaker (really it was an extremely plain cocktail shaker) as an accessory tool for cooking. This became known as "an Elizabeth shaker". We bought one at the time and I still have it and still use it regularly.
