Sunday drive and picnic, 1952

Growth in car ownership from the 1920s allowed people to travel greater distances for recreation. The Sunday drive was a popular family activity until the 1970s, and it was often combined with a picnic. This family, comprising three generations, is enjoying a summer picnic alongside their spacious Chrysler car, somewhere in Otago in 1952.
