Courtville flats

Courtville flats

Due to their association with squalid Old World tenements, blocks of flats or apartments were not built in New Zealand until the 1910s, when they came to be seen as modern and sophisticated by the urbane. Among the first was Courtville (named after the nearby Supreme Court) in central Auckland, built in two stages between 1914 and 1919. It was designed to resemble similar structures in Paris and Vienna.
