St Andrew is the patron saint of the Greek Orthodox Church. In this 1983 photo, Archbishop Dionysios Psiachas points to the icons (sacred images) of St Andrew and the Virgin and Christ Child at his diocesan (central) church in Miramar, Wellington. These icons are modern reproductions of 10th- or 12th-century originals. All Greek Orthodox churches display them on one side of the altar, with representations of Christ and John the Baptist on the other.
