Christchurch women's refuge founders, 2008

Diane Shannon (left) and Rosemary Howard helped found the Christchurch women's refuge – one of the first in the world – in 1973. In 2008, when this photo was taken, the refuge was celebrating its 35th anniversary. It was the largest independent refuge in New Zealand.
