Blessing the fleet

Blessing the fleet

Around  5,000 people and 45 commercial and recreational boats attended the blessing of Nelson's fishing fleet in 2009. The largest was the 39.4-metre trawler Ocean Ranger. The annual event is held to raise awareness of the fishing industry and also to remember those who have been lost at sea. Thanks to its central location and proximity to fishing grounds, Nelson is New Zealand's major deep-sea fishing port.
