Humanitarian work

In this 1963 photograph, Hillary connects the last section of hose for a new water tank at Khumjung, Nepal. After initially responding to an appeal by Sherpas for a school at Khumjung in 1961, he established the Himalayan Trust, which built much-needed facilities such as schools, airfields, bridges and hospitals in Nepal.
